  • The Colour Purple

This isn't the English variant of Alice Walker's 'The Color Purple' but an introduction to the vibrant and eye-catching colours of 2019 (a wildly less serious topic)! The style over last year has drifted to more standout colours and creating seamless  matches instead of different shades of grey.

Still worth a mention as it is an incredible read!

The crunch of leaves beneath your feet

Hot colours to look for are currently autumnal, burnt oranges, light browns and burgundy. These can make beautiful feature colours but also have a safe feel as they are quite mellow and easy to look at. A typical example is the flood of tan overcoats you see on your smartly dressed colleagues.

The colours represent natural bright environments

Translating this onto the interior design scene, we hope over 2019 to see more feature walls and smartly patterned throw cushions. Be braver with your colour choices but, as always, try to keep it palatable. Our general rule of thumb is no more than three colours in one room (with a bit of slack for white, black and grey as a fourth) and no more than 3 patterns. Patterns are hard as some can sit nicely together whereas some can completely disagree, use your judgement and style to make your pick.

    Living Coral

Starting 2019 you may also see the label 'living coral' thrown around a lot. This is because Pantone named it colour of the year and if you get chance, you should check out their post about it. It shows how well this colour can be used by expressing it through the page, fonts and imagery. There is an especially beautiful video showing its natural presence under the sea.

2019 colour of the year The colour really does shine alongside pale blues

The vibe is not too dissimilar to the flush of autumnal colours also rearing their heads. Both exhibit a relaxing undertone, not too aggressive in appearance. This however has a more floral, tropical atmosphere than the warming, spicy flavours of the oranges. I would encourage experimenting with this pallet to see what makes it shine. I would warn that pastels fall in and out of fashion whereas seasonal colours remain timeless.

    Furniture to finish the look

Use this modern colour inspiration to enhance your existing decor. As always with warm colours, a farmhouse or natural wood aesthetic makes a lovely homely environment. We would love to see someone take our Cheltenham range and use this scheme to add depth.

somebody please dress this in fluffy bedding

As a newly featured range in our catalogue we are interested to see what our stylish customers can achieve with this versatile look, especially playing with the painted finishes available. In our opinion it would suit Autumnal colour schemes with hints of copper around the room.

This aesthetic has been experimented with a lot recently to great success. As a more contemporary suggestion, check out some of our weathered pieces. These can add character to a more polished look, going hand in hand with the casual timeless aesthetic of dark reds, oranges etc.

  • Four Poster Beds

As everyone has seen again and again in fairy-tales or Disney films, four poster beds are the first choice of long haired princesses or former-beast Kings. The obvious reason for this is the unrivalled luxury and opulence of the design. It completely changes the vibe of both the bed and the bedroom by adding a veil of privacy to your resting place.

They are rightfully a symbol for beauty and wealth. Those who have the space for one of these undeniably large feature pieces have to make the most of those high Victorian ceilings and find one that's right for you. There is even an Independent top 10 for these beauties which is definitely worth a browse for some inspiration. It's a quick look at all the different design inspirations, some are minimalist, some take influence from the orient, some show African influence. All boast the high level of craftsmanship you would expect to go into such a marvel.

Taking a look at our own catalogue, we can see that there is a small range of four poster beds, we provide a few basic designs since we have, so far, offered eccentric and flamboyant  pieces in the form of regular beds. that is to change somewhat with the introduction of our new inspiration.

Our outstanding Juliette four poster has arrived! Our outstanding Juliette four poster has arrived!

As you can see, our Juliette is nothing like we have offered before. It offers a romantic atmosphere and soft neutral tones to create an utterly tranquil environment. It also adds a sense of flamboyance to our four poster range. Now that is unique, and completely new to our catalogue.

  • Louis Phillipe and reclaimed wood

Our extensive catalogue is ever progressing and recently we have explored the classical French design of Sleighs. The Greek encouraged this movement in 19th century French design, leading to these scroll-like curves featuring beautifully in French furniture. We have been fans of this design for some time, as shown by our Antionette range and the outstanding craftsmanship that goes into those pieces. These boast a mahogany build and so have a very strong presence, this makes them outstanding feature pieces and collectively they create an unbelievable bedroom aesthetic.

see how the sleigh style becomes an eye-catching feature to a neutral bedroom see how the sleigh style becomes an eye-catching feature to a neutral bedroom

Similar to the Antionette range, here, the sleek understated style of the sleigh is very minimalist and allows the quality of the wood to shine through perfectly. In contrast to our Antionette range, the Louis Phillipe pieces are crafted in reclaimed wood with a much different presence than the powerful mahogany above. We wanted to add depth and bring this luxurious aesthetic into a more homely and warm light and this range does so exquisitely. The charming imperfections of the wood give it an amazing natural appeal and allows it to blend with other wood pieces splendidly.

in reclaimed wood, the sleigh style becomes so homely and welcoming in reclaimed wood, the sleigh style becomes so homely and welcoming

As you can see, although both ranges draw similar inspiration they are stark contrasts to one another in terms of interior designs. Thus, we now offer the sleigh style in a soulful and sombre range as well as an extraordinarily bold and beautiful collection.

We're very excited to see what our customers do with these pieces, we hope to see lots of farmhouse interiors and rustic style.

  • Trends: 2017 Furniture

2016 has been an exciting year with the flowing demand for more edgy, contemporary pieces such as traditional pieces with a silver leaf finish. Moving past this however, we welcome what 2017 promises to bring with it!

contemporary furniture A little flash from the past ... year.

    Timeless!

Some pieces carry their hype throughout years of holding the flag, one such is our Sophia button upholstered bed which has been revered across our projects and it will continue to be "in" this year. After the interest in more flashy and opulent furnishings, white painted and neutral wooden pieces are to make a grander appearance this year as a ripple effect.

painted wood furniture Our exclusive and universally loved Sophia bed.

    Up and Coming!

Taking into account the wide variety of interests sparking throughout interior design, we can see that drama and deep character are the reigning qualities to be watched. In response to this, furnishings will take a less eye catching roll and will be intended to compliment vivid wallpapers and paints or complex combinations of accessories. Shabby chic easily clashes with sleek aesthetics whereas more simple designs offer a beautiful appearance to add to the overall effect. It's no longer about the feature wall but an exquisite blend of all ingredients within the room and this can be easily ruined by overdoing a single aspect.

subtle furniture Subtle uses of furnishings as seen in Sheerluxe's blog, linked below.

This brings rise to a variety of pastels and neutrals present in a specifically good partner for 2017, upholstery. It maintains an atmosphere of luxury whilst offering an accent rather than overpowering. The same can be said for wooden pieces which can be finished in more subtle paints, also offering a range of choices, painted French style furnishings can mesh perfectly with any interior and are timeless!

french furniture Our Beaulieu range blends subtle painted pieces with beautifully upholstered works.

    A Blast From the Past!

Shabby chic still finds a place within the mix however, much of the furniture that offers a rustic appeal and perhaps a grander impression also allow for niche colours to be settled into a room. pistachios and a family of darker colours can be brought to life by cooler tones from our Etienne range or dark woods such as mahogany.

  • A Spare Bed

We are approaching that time when we need to consider the possibility of hosting for a few nights and inevitably this will involve some overnight guests. Although the festive season may get us in the spirit for giving it is always a hard task clearing out the guest room and trying to make the mattress propped up on stilts look presentable for your favourite mother-in-law. Amongst the rubble and boxes however is an invaluable asset, space!

Yes space! Your guest suite shouldn’t be something to bring a sigh when you have left the door open and glanced inside, it should be a trophy, a space to be proud of. Maybe hosting the family "get-together"s wouldn’t be so daunting as well.

    Revamp, with a lamp

Lighting is essential; it can create a completely different atmosphere and, for the most part, the trouble with an unloved room is the atmosphere. The wallpaper isn’t modern and the carpet has seen better days but this can be fine-tuned by better lighting and won’t involve tearing the whole place apart!

Horse Head Lamp With Ivory Shade Horse Head Lamp With Ivory Shade

In keeping with upping the wow factor in your smaller bedroom, a beige lampshade works perfectly with a silver base. This is neutral and works beautifully with whatever existing design you have as well as offering a bit of flash! Our horse head lamp possesses a similarly neutral ivory shade and offers a more contemporary appeal whilst our nickel lamp with a beige shade is a classic and gives this classy aesthetic that is sure to bring a bit of life into your guest suite.

    Your Main Frame

Onto the main event now, which is undoubtedly the bed, we can’t go too far into furnishing a spare room or we run the risk of overcrowding, so the best thing is to keep it simple. A fresh lamp, a new bed with some warming linens should do the trick but if you really want to hit a home run we would recommend a bedside table just to bring the look together.

Upholstered Grey French Single Bed Upholstered Grey French Single Bed

Single or at most double beds are a must for your spare room, anything bigger and you may have trouble getting your guests to leave! A mini wonder from one of our own ranges is the upholstered French grey single bed which boasts a class and style perfect for settling into a different bedroom. It makes you feel homely and beautifully compliments our favourite guest lamps.

    Morning blues

Let’s get those spare rooms into fighting condition and make people wonder why they’re going spare in the first place. By the time the morning has come around there will be a few sad faces having to leave your marvellous guest boudoir and you can stand proud over your exquisite creation.
